Bhuri Bai, Marion Gijzen, Domenica Caristan, Claire Basler, and Valdemaro Grifoni.
Fabio Hurtado was largely influenced by the 1980s. The 1980s were an era of increasing global capitalism, political upheaval, worldwide mass media, wealth discrepancies and unique music and fashion, characterised by hip hop and electronic pop music. This had a heavy impact on the generation of artists growing up during this era. The fall of the Berlin Wall at the end of the 1980s marked the end of the Cold War, yet the era was also marked by the African Famine. During this time prominent art movements included Neo Geo, The Pictures Generation and Neo-Expressionism, which took a particular hold in Germany, France and Italy. Artists such as Anselm Kiefer, Jörg Immendorf, Enzo Cucchi, Francesco Clemente and Julian Schnabel were key artists working at this time, alongside Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring and Kenny Scharf, who established the street art and graffiti movements, which quickly gained an influential reputation. He graduated from the Fine Art School of the Complutense University, Madrid . After three years of teaching experience he finally started painting professionally in 1988. From that moment on his presence in international art circles has been constant. He was awarded membership of the Rome Academy of Modern Art in 1996 and as well as other numerous prizes, Her Majesty Queen Sophia of Spain presented him with a Medal of Honour at the BMW Painting Contest. He was invited to participate, together with some of Spain’ s most important artists, in an exhibition to celebrate the 25 th Anniversary of the Spanish Constitution. Furthermore a stamp collection was issued featuring six of his paintings with the subject “ Women and reading “. His paintings can be found in the permanent collections of both The Ulster Museum, Belfast ( Ireland ) and the National Museum of Fine Arts, La Valletta ( Malta ). The Finantial Times Telecom magazine and a special edition of La Vanguardia newspaper featured Fabio Hurtado’ s work as the front cover . He frequently collaborates with non-profit organizations in Europe and Asia which construct school and fund education.
A retrospective exhibition took place in 2017 at Civica Galleria di Palazzo Rocca in Chiavari ( Italy).
Hurtado is an artist with an unmistakeable style. His paintings recreate scenes in an almost cinematographic context which are set within the 1920's and 1930's. His exquisite drawing skills and harmonious use of color are complementary to the overall sense of mystery surrounding his stylish and elegant characters and the roles they play in his paintings. There is an implied interaction between the spectator, the paintings and the artist who encourages the viewer to use his imagination in unravelling and participating in the narrative of the work. Hurtado's painting is serious and produced in a conscientious manner, where imagination and technique are in harmony resulting in a poignant statement of the timeless unchanging realities of the human condition.
