I am personally a big fan of Mark Stanford's talent. I have seen him get better and better through a number of years.. Now I can quite proudly present this excellent oil painting that competes quite favorably with the artwork of Highwaymen. This is a wonderfully sensitive rendition. I love the Spanish moss; the doe jumping in the foreground; the total "feeling" of this work of art.

Mark only started painting seriously about 20 years ago. He painted strictly with a palette knife then. Artists who inspired Mark were AE Backus, Harold Newton, George F. Higgins, Thomas Moran, Herman Herzog and Winslow Homer. Painting came very easy to him as he painted from his memories of Florida as a child before Florida grew up and all the construction and pollution erased the Florida Mark grew up around. as a Florida girl myself, I certainly remember such scenes.

Mark's paintings, many which he did with thick paint and a palette knife, developed a market. Quite by chance, Mark worked out a deal with a very fine Florida Artist, Ahmed Eltemtamy, to trade one of his own paintings back to him for lessons. Mark learned so much from the first few lessons that Mark kept the lessons going for an entire year; 2011 - 2012. Ahmed taught Mark the use of the brush and proper mixing techniques as well as many other skills, and as a result, Mark was then able to paint for a living. I love Ahmed's paintings as well, and have several listed in my shop.

Mark has won many awards and ribbons in juried art shows all over the state of Florida, and is also a listed artist.
