DESCRIPTION: From a Private Collection, this porcelain vase is an exceptional and rare Dresden piece. Originally decorated in the studio of Donath & Company, this antique Vase is highly detailed and in fine condition. As one of the ‘big four’ that defined Dresden, Donath & Company decorated in the style of Meissen and Vienna.

Typically, the studio artists painted on Meissen blanks but also used wares from Thomas Co., and some of the manufacturers in Limoges. Donath & Co. created award-winning excellent pieces of the era, were featured in Harrods catalogs in competition with a wide range of English bone china services.

The details of this HandPainted Vase are fantastic! Please view each photograph carefully as they capture the outstanding craftsmanship, artistry and skill required to create such a piece. Simply outstanding, the production of this type of work cannot be understated.

The HandPainted Vase features alternating Watteau scenes with portraits of lovers in period costume in garden setting. The Watteau scenes are meticulously HandPainted.

The Vase blank in itself is a brilliant design. Decorated, it features scalloped raised square base that anchors a bulbous section where lavish amounts of gold and details, including moriage, showcase the Watteau scenes. The ornate gilt handles cascade in ribbons down each side, and the reticulated opening is rimmed in gold. Blue luster ground accents each end of this HandPainted vase, a perfect complement to the colors found within the period costumes.

The piece is rare, unusual and exceptional. The lavish gold embellishments are spectacular. The reticulated details, moriage, unusual shape…together form an heirloom piece.

This Dresden piece is a fine testament to antique porcelain manufacturing and a time when mass production was not in vogue…and why we treasure the period and this exceptional antique piece.

WHY I LIKE IT: This Dresden & Co. piece represents the finest of Dresden porcelain. Its beauty is defined with precision on porcelain canvas, displaying the very best of HandPainted porcelain resulting in a timeless classic.
