This is a vintage Art Deco dress clip dating to the 1930's. The frame is pot metal. Pot metal was a material used for jewelry during war times due to the lack of other resources. It has an open shield design. The center is accented with three raised rectangular large dark pave set glass stones. At the top of these stones and around the border are brilliant lighter red pave set small rhinestones. The clip is secure with a little wiggle when open. This is normal. Size is 1 inch in width by 2 inches in length. This dress clip is in very good condition.
Dress clips were a purely ornamental type of pin that first gained prominence in the 1920's. They were often worn in pairs on the neckline or on straps of dresses. Popularity waned in the 1950's. They can now be used to decorate pockets, at the waistline, on hats or as hair pieces.
