This pretty Mexican reindeer is from the Art Deco era and has the early mark of Mexican silver before the use of eagle marks which began in the 1940's and before artists starting stamping their name or hallmark. The style of the deer also speaks to the Art Deco era. The brooch is marked "Silver Made in Mexico" and is guaranteed to be at least 925 if not higher. The deer measures 2 1/2" in length, 1 1/2" in height, and it weighs 8.9 grams on my jewelry scale. The brooch is in excellent condition with no damage and has a fine working clasp. Looking at the clasp, the brooch has a T bar end, again speaking to the time period in which it was made. If you collect old Mexican silver or Christmas pins, this Art Deco reindeer makes a perfect Christmas pin for your lapel. It is exactly the way it came out of the estate here in Maine. I have not cleaned it, as everyone has their own preference as to how bright they like silver, hence the slight patina on the brooch. It will make a nice addition to your Art Deco era silver jewelry collection or to a Christmas brooch collection as well.
