Art Deco Made in France French Silver Mother of Pearl Rosary - MOP Center Heart and American Silver Crucifix
While in Paris about 10 years ago, I was collecting bits and pieces of old rosaries. The one on offer here was practically complete but needed a little TLC to make it usable once more. Featuring 6.5mm mother of pearl beads that have darkened with age, the paters to the piece measure 9.5mm; the center medal is a carved MOP heart. Now while the paters on the top portion of the rosary have silver end caps, the paters on the bottom do not. Also, the original mother of pearl cross that was at the bottom of the rosary had broken and needed to be replaced - I had to wait a time to find the perfect crucifix and I think I have. The bottom cross is solid Sterling Silver (hallmarked as pictured) and works well the with age of the rosary (C.1930 or so). Oh, and there is an additional French Silver (hallmarked with a French poincon for content) mini medal sitting on one of the top paters. All 59 beads are present.
Length of the rosary is 19-1/2" from bottom of cross to back of rosary. The cross alone measures 2-1/4" x 1-9/16". The center mop heart measures 13/16" high x 3/4". Weight of the entire piece is 49.2 grams.
Leave as is and don't wash and you have one terrific rosary with patina. Wash the beads and you might lose some of that "antique patina" so beloved in old rosaries. Your call. This is one VERY hard to find rosary design to find!
