This superb bronze medal was designed by the French medallist Édouard Charles Fraisse (1880-1945). He was a painter, sculptor and medallist.
This medal dates to the Art Deco period. It was distributed by Le Matin, a French daily newspaper first published in 1884 and discontinued in 1944.
The medal measures 2” (5cms) across and weighs 61.9 grams.
On the front is a striking, raised image of a lady, typically deco in style. In one hand she holds a quill pen and in the other a bunch of stylised flowers. It is an utterly beautiful piece or art.
It is signed ‘F Fraisse ‘ at lower right.
On the reverse is a flaming torch with laurel leaves. Across these is a scroll inscribed ‘Le Matin’.
In excellent, vintage condition, this lovely piece will arrive in a gift box.
