Here is a most delightful, gold filled, medal marked ‘ORIA’. It carries a sweet image of a cherub. I am dating it to the Art Deco period circa 1930 .
Oria is a mark similar to Fix. Both specialised in heavy gold filled jewellery which would deceive an onlooker into believing it was the real thing. It hardly ever shows wear such is its thickness and durability.
The medal measures 1 and 1/16” (2.8cms), including the top ring, by 5/8” (1.7cms) across the centre. It weighs 1.7 grams.
The very eco frame has alternate engraved and plain triangles. It is pierced and in the centre is an exquisite image of Raphael’s angel, in fact a sweet cherub.
At the top is a squared off ring and a bail.
The reverse has a monogram on the reverse. At the top is the mark ‘ORIA’ and at the base a maker’s mark.
In fine vintage condition, this rare and very beautiful medal will arrive in a gift box.
