Here is a pretty, gold filled, Art Nouveau stick pin marked ‘Fix’, a company founded in 1823 with a secret formula for this type of 18 carat thickly gold filled jewellery. It is was designed by Edmond Becker (1871-1971) – one of the most celebrated French engravers. I date this piece to circa 1900.

The subject is Joan of Arc, the celebrated French heroine.

The pin measures 2½” (6.2cms) long and ½” (1.2cms) across the top. It weighs 1.5 grams.

On the top is a beautiful, raised image of Joan of Arc. At the top is inscribed her name in old French ‘Jehanne’ – neither blessed or canonised, helping us to date the image as an early piece. She is shown with a strong profile and on her left is a banner and shield with her coat of arms – a sword surmounted with a crown and two fleur de lis. At lower right is the signature ‘Becker’.

On the reverse is an image of laurel leaves, a sword and banner.

The pin itself is marked ‘FIX’.

This delightful stick pin is in excellent antique condition. It will arrive in a gift box.
