This fascinating , French Art Deco medal bears a boar’s head hallmark for 800-900 silver quality. It was awarded to the winner of a weight lifting competition.
It measures 1 and ¾” (4.2cms) long and 1” (2.5”) across the widest part. It weighs 11.4 grams.
In the centre is a roundel with a finely engraved image of a very muscular weight lifter with trees in the background. Above and below are sprays of oak leaves. There are lovely curves typical of the Art Deco period.
The medal looks as if it is hanging from the ring above on a tiny ribbon. The ring is marked with the boar’s head and a maker’s mark. There is a bail attached for a chain.
The reverse is inscribed with the details of the award - first price in the light weights category in 1923.
In fine vintage (almost antique condition) with just a few signs of age, this charming medal will arrive in a gift box.
