Marvelously Art Nouveau, this fully hallmarked English dresser jar features a domed Sterling silver lid with stellar repoussé work, depicting flowing curved fronds and charming flower blossoms. The hand cut hobnail glass base is deeply incised and the bottom of the base is adorned with a dramatic starburst. Quality skilled craftsmanship not often found today! The hallmarks are the lion passant for Sterling, the anchor for Birmingham, the date letter – a small ‘a’ – for the year 1900, and the maker’s mark HWL’d, for Henry Williamson Ltd., a firm which was founded in 1865 and out of business by 1929. The overall condition is excellent; the Sterling silver top has no monogram and sports a gilded interior. There are some minor dents on the rim, as pictured, which could be easily fixed, but I prefer to leave that to the buyer. The top fits tightly on the jar; there are no chips or occlusions on the glass. This lovely measures 3 inches wide, 3 inches tall, and has a 9 inch external circumference around the jar. Art Nouveau items of this quality are scarce – so many were lost or damaged. This 120+-year-old beauty is an heirloom treasure. You will be pleased. $169.00
