Offered for sale is this handsome and striking, Brazilian, handmade folk art serving tray of mahogany wood, a collage of butterfly wings, and glass in an Art Deco pattern from the 1920's-1930's vintage. The iridescent blue Morpho butterfly wings are the main focal point of the composition and seem to depict a stylized flower design. At its center are bits of brown and ochre pieces of butterfly wings/moths. Around the Morpho butterfly wings are cream colored wings, and around those is a series of brown and orange butterfly wings. The background is completely covered with yellow butterfly wings and each corner is accentuated with another type of butterfly/moth elements. This is a very tedious and time consuming project. All of these butterflies and moths are indigenous to Brazil. The tray measures 18.5" in width by 11.25" in length and is in extremely good to excellent vintage condition. There is a paper label on its reverse side written in Portuguese and the tray comes from a city named , Curitiba, which is the capital of the southern Brazilian state of Parana and is also known as a cultural center. The tray may be used for utilitarian or decorative purposes.
