A pretty and charming 1920s flapper era metallic mesh bag in a stylized Art Deco design. It is made in a high quality flat armour mesh which is fine and smooth. The colours are blue, yellow pink and white.
This lovely purse has a kiss style closure which fastens firmly. The frame is in silver tone metal with an attractive repoussé floral design. The purse has a pointed van Dyke shape with attached fringes.
There is slight detachment at the corners where the enamelled body meets the frame but this is normal with purses of this type. Some fringe elements absent.
Contemporary with Whiting and Davies was the Mandalian company pioneered by a Turkish émigré in 1912 when he patented his mesh making machine. The company was renowned for its ornate designs and vibrant colours. Mandalian can be found in many styles and frames depicting 20's and 30's art. They have detailed silver-tone frames, gold-tone frames, enamelled frames and costume jewelled frames. Their bases -- bottom of purses -- are many styles. They have metal fringe skirts, tri-point metal fringe skirts, stepped skirts, and some have incredible metal teardrop dangles or metal beads.
